Our volunteers are of all ages and come from all walks of life, indeed anybody who has an hour or more a week to volunteer for us is most welcome.
- Have you recently retired and have a few hours to spare each week?
- Are you bored at home now that the children have started school?
- Or perhaps you are just between jobs?
- Have you ever considered using some of that spare time to help someone else?
- Want something worthwhile to do in the School holidays?
- The list is endless, but the need for more volunteers is greater than ever.
At present Totnes Caring need: -
- mini-bus drivers (must be over the age of 25)
- helpers on the mini-bus
- drivers
- shoppers (a car would be an advantage but not a necessity)
- befrienders (visiting clients)
- luncheon club helpers
- coffee morning and fundraising helpers
- volunteers to bake or make handicrafts for the monthly coffee mornings
- someone good at car booting
- big, strong people to help set up and pack way at coffee mornings
All out of pocket expenses are paid including a mileage allowance of 42p per mile.
You need only commit as much time as you wish
Volunteers can choose exactly how much time they give to us and exactly what they want to do.
Call us, have a chat and we’ll go from there. We then send out information to you with a covering letter and some simple forms to fill in.
When you have completed the forms could you please return them to the office. You will then be invited to come for an informal interview to discuss what you would like to do and to meet the other members of staff. At our meeting you will be asked to complete a CRB disclosure form so could you please bring with you either your passport, birth certificate, driving licence or marriage certificate and a utility bill.

Thank you to volunteers
Our volunteers are so important to us and we hold monthly meetings with them, not only to thank them but to involve them in what we are doing and obtain their valuable feedback. We break down these meetings into different groups to make them smaller which enables everyone to have a say.
Each Year we hold our Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony – which celebrates commitment to volunteers by awarding a Bronze Award for 2 years service; Silver Award for 5 years service; and Gold Award plus Totnes Caring Gold Badge for 10 years service, and something special for those who reach 20 years of volunteering for Totnes Caring.
These meetings – or more appropriately, social occasions – are a chance for volunteers to meet not only each other, but with staff and Trustees and they are a very sociable and important part of our support and appreciation to all our volunteers.
