Older People Services: Transport

As we become older, being able to get out and about is a vital way to stay healthy by accessing health care services such as, hospital, doctors surgeries, dentists, opticians etc. It also enables us to stay part of the local community and to access our group activities.
Our transport service is for older people who are frail, have mobility or a health conditions where other forms of transport are not very accessible and who live in Totnes and the surrounding areas. We can provide a door to door service to health appointments and to Totnes Caring social activities. Our volunteer drivers use their own cars, the Totnes Caring mini-bus or our Wheelchair accessible Vehicle (WAV).
Booking Transport for Health Appointments
The sooner you book your transport, there is more of a chance that we will be able to find you a driver. We always do our best to fulfil all drives, but sometimes we just do not have enough volunteer drivers. We require min. 48 hours notice when booking for appointments where possible and as much notice of cancellations as possible, to allow other lifts to be given.
Totnes Caring receives no direct funding for the costs of these journeys and relies on your donation to cover these costs. The suggested donations listed below are designed to cover the drivers expenses and include the return trip. The costs shown are what journeys cost from Totnes Town – please add £2 if you live in the surrounding area.
- Totnes = £8
- Paignton = £17
- Torbay = £18
- Ashburton = £18
- Newton Abbot = £18
- Kingsbridge = £23
- Dartmouth = £23
- Teignmouth = £23
- Derriford = £33
- RD&E Exeter = £36
Donations can be placed in the collecting box in your volunteer driver’s car.
Alternatively you can pay by card over the phone.
