Totnes Caring Groups Restarted

All of our groups have now restarted, following Christmas and New Year and a pause due to the emergence of Omicron.

Art Group: Monday at Rushbrook. 10am – 12 noon and 13.30 – 15.30.

Lunch Club:  Mondays at the Social Club on Station Road from around 12.15-13.45pm.

Memory Café: Thursday afternoons at Totnes Boating Association 2pm-4pm.

New Directions: will start running again on Tuesday 15th February, with a small group of existing clients. it takes place in the afternoon at the Social Club on Station Road. Lunch first, followed by activities.

Dementia Carer’s Support Group: Carers Online – first Wednesday of the month at 2 pm, Carer’s Face to Face – second Wednesday of the month at 12.30pm (cared for person very welcome). Online Singalongs – third Tuesdays of the month at 3pm

Live Music Now: occasional live music Zoom meetings run in partnership with national charity Live Music Now

Would you like a worthwhile job based in Totnes?

A role in which you can helps others and make a real difference?

If so, Totnes Caring is currently looking to recruit another home help. Hours are negotiable, but usually about 20-25 per week.

Totnes Caring is a local charity offering help and assistance to older, disabled and vulnerable people living in Totnes and surrounding areas. In particular we offer support to help people live independently at home for as long as possible and not be isolated from the community.

Applicants need to be reliable, personable, caring and hard working to join our busy home help team. Good interpersonal, organisational and communication skills are needed with the ability to work unsupervised. No personal care involved. No weekend or evening work involved.

The home help role involves :

  • Cleaning and tidying clients home
  • Making beds and changing bed linen
  • Assisting with laundry and ironing where necessary
  • Shopping for housebound clients

Support will be provided by Liz, the Home Help Coordinator.

Previous experience in a similar role would be beneficial, but is not essential as full training will be provided.

Salary: £9.45 per hour plus mileage.

Volunteer Drivers Urgently Needed

Would you like to volunteer as a driver for Totnes Caring.

Drivers are urgently needed to take clients to Memory Cafe, Lunch Club and medical appointments.

Friday is an especially busy day with coordinating drives to appointments, lunch club and Memory Café. If you enjoy driving and would like to help we’d love to hear from you.

It’s a way to make a real difference to our local community. It enables the elderly to remain as independent as possible and provides much needed companionship and socialisation. You get to meet new people & will make new friendships and be part of our team of our amazing volunteers.
